Camera Bag Requirement

In order to utilize and protect the camera equipment available for qualified RCC Photo students, there is a camera bag requirement.

The bag must be large enough to safely contain and carry a medium format camera. This results in having the minimal interior dimensions of 12″ x 9″ x 6″. The bag must be fully padded, have a sturdy handle or strap system and have space enough for a light meter and film to ride along.

There are many bags on the market from which to choose. A good strategy is to consider getting a quality bag that will last for many years and will adapt, by way of moveable internal dividers, to other camera gear as you progress through the program.

Recommended Light Meters

In the beginning of the fall semester of the first year in RCC Photography Technology program students are required to have a light meter. There are several light meters in the marketplace from which to choose and more expensive or bigger isn’t always better.

The specifications for the light meter you will need for the RCC photography program are as follows:

  1. The meter must be able to take both ambient and flash readings.
  2. The meter must be able to take both incident and reflected reading.

Many of our students have found the Sekonic L-308X-U FLASHMATE Light Meter or an older L-308 S series to be a good meter to start with.

If you already have a light meter from another manufacturer please consult with us on the first week of the fall semester.

Below are some suggestions and price points.

Tripod List

One of the tools that is very important and one that you will use a lot in the RCC photo program is a tripod. In fact if you purchase a good one it will last for many years to come.

There are many out there from which to choose, probably too many, so we have compiled a list of sorts to help you navigate to a good purchase.

Below are the tripods we consider to be a good investment and are able to do everything you will need them to do.

Below shows a list of tripod legs and a list of tripod heads. You need both

Medium format film cameras are heavy! We highly recommend the Bogen-Manfrotto, Slik, Induro or Benro brands. 3 way pan/tilt heads are preferred, ball heads are not recommended. Standard or quick release plate heads are both acceptable.

Below shows a list of legs followed by a list of heads. You need one from each or a complete tripod kit which includes both legs and head.
